Yoga, to me, is a process of simplification, for the practice of yoga invites us to tune in and sit with the “what is”. Yoga is not just about postures but a tuning in, into the deepest levels of our beings: the way of our being in space and time, tuning our awareness into movement and stillness, simultaneously. It is not a performance act, but a practice that changes every day simply because we change all the time. In more ways than one, I am absolutely convinced that yoga can be a healing presence in our lives. I am eternally grateful for the chance to integrate the practice in my life. My exploration of yoga may have led me to embark on the path of being a teacher / guide / facilitator, but I will forever remain a humble student as I hope to spread the joy of yoga to more people. It is my humble desire to lead my students eventually towards the path of self-inquiry and embodiment, beyond asanas – I work with people, not just bodies. Remaining mindful and particular about providing a safe environment for students to practice in for the work on the multiple layers (physical, energetic, mental/ emotional) whether in group sessions or in private lessons, I continually put in the work firstly as a sincere practitioner and as a facilitator.

Every person’s body and needs are unique so I believe everyone’s practice should honour these differences. That has led me to go beyond the study of physical postures and into study of the anatomy, as well as Chinese Medicine and philosophy. I hope yoga can help people to be healthier both on and off the mat, whether it is physically, emotionally or mentally, so that they can lead happy and balanced lives.

My teaching style is informed by how I have been taught by my teachers and in accordance with my Gurus’ teachings. The Dharma tradition is deeply rooted in harnessing intuition and undertaking practice for someone other than yourself. It cultivates a mental habit of kindness, respect, and humility. The Gokul tradition has a much more practical method to approaching the Inner Self, and focuses on energetical locks to internalise one’s practice. I feel it is very important to adhere to a tradition or a lineage, one that’s true, tried and tested from the Guru, from his Guru, and from before.

Less is always more. I believe in empowering the modern-day yoga practitioner to continually ask why instead of practising tradition for tradition’s sake.

I teach what I practice and I teach with a view to safety, giving my students options to allow them to practise with mindfulness and awareness.  I always endeavour to teach from a nurturing and empathetic place, and I try my best to offer supportive and encouraging classes that facilitate the connection of body and mind through the breath.
