Love notes from our guests at The Yoga School.

Sandy Ng

When did your journey with The Yoga School begin?

My journey with The Yoga School started on 13 January 2020. The Yoga School is the third yoga studio I’ve tried since I arrived in Singapore at the end of October 2017. I knew I wanted to support local businesses so I did my due diligence and looked for a good boutique yoga studio that was easy to access and also possessed a great ethos. Although The Yoga School is closing at the end of this year, I am so glad that I’ve had the pleasure to know the staff, teachers, and found new yogi friends. I am very grateful for this experience.

How has your practice grown since then?

Since I joined The Yoga School, I have completed two yoga teacher training certifications. Namely, a 95-hour Children’s Yoga Teacher Training (with Karen Wightman at Pure Yoga) and a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (with Lynn Yeo and Sumei Shum at Como Shambhala). And I don’t intend to stop!

I am so glad that I found yoga, or rather, yoga found me. Either way, I am very keen to know and learn more about this great ‘human technology’ that is yoga.

What are you most grateful for in terms of this journey you have taken with The Yoga School?

The Yoga School, as it is so aptly named, is truly a sanctuary in the sky. Every single yoga practice I’ve had at The Yoga School is safe, inspiring, devotional and enjoyable. Even though we practice yoga “in the sky”, I feel very grounded and centred after every practice. I feel really spoilt and lucky to be able to practice at The Yoga School. The space is impeccable! More importantly, it is the people that brings the environment to life. I am also very grateful to get to know the people that have come into my life through The Yoga School. Thank you!

What’s a yoga mantra or inspirational quote that you return to time and again?

“The very heart of yoga practice is abhyasa – a steady effort in the direction you want to go.” – Sally Kempton

What are some parting words you would like to share with the staff and teachers of the school?

To Nissa, Rae, and Yanni: I’m going to miss you! Thank you for your professionalism and the nice personal touch of welcoming me to The Yoga School each time I come in for practice.

To the teachers: I sincerely thank you all so much for your guidance, knowledge, amazing energy, and care you show towards your students. The yoga world is a better place knowing that you share your practice with students. I hope we get to practice together again. Namaste!

To the founder, Dawn: Thank you so much for creating The Yoga School. I am so glad you’ve shared your vision of The Yoga School with us, benefitting many yogis in the past four years. I wish you well and wish you every success for your next venture!

When did your journey with The Yoga School begin?

My journey began when I moved to Singapore in January this year and was introduced to Pearl  Bhasin and Dawn Chan  by my Dharma Yoga teacher from Hong Kong.

I had already been practicing Dharma Yoga for more than two years before I moved to Singapore and was looking for a school to continue my journey in this amazing lineage.

How has your practice grown since then?

After joining The Yoga School for two weeks, I embarked on my already planned journey to New York City to learn from the living yoga master himself. I was very blessed to be able to join the “Life of a Yogi” teacher training with Sri Dharma Mittra and become a teacher myself.

Since my return to Singapore, The Yoga School has been instrumental not only in continuing my regular Dharma Yoga practice, but also building the local spiritual community by supporting one another’s growth through the good and tough times.

What are you most grateful for in terms of this journey you have taken with The Yoga School?

Being new to Singapore, I am most grateful for the community I was blessed to become a part of. I’ve felt very welcome and loved. The Yoga School became my second home away from home .

What’s a yoga mantra or inspirational quote that you return to time and again?

Quite simply – be receptive.

What are some parting words you would like to share with the staff and teachers of the school?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I wish you all the best for the future. I am sure there will be new amazing beginnings and you will stand supreme through the tough times!

When did your journey with The Yoga School begin?

I was invited to attend a private event hosted by Chanel on 30 July 2017. Thereafter, I attended my first Dharma I class with Dawn Chan on 15 August 2017.

How has your practice grown since then?

I have developed a better understanding of the limitations of my body and mind. This change in my own approach to yoga has led to a stronger core and a better appreciation for the serenity needed for the practice.

What are you most grateful for in terms of this journey you have taken with The Yoga School?

I am grateful for developing a greater appreciation that yoga is more than merely perfecting a pose. The environment provided by The Yoga School is also highly conducive for unwinding from the stresses of daily life.

What’s a yoga mantra or inspirational quote that you return to time and again?

Wishing the world and all living things the peace that we all need.

What are some parting words you would like to share with the staff and teachers of the school?

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the TYS family. I appreciate all the care and guidance from the TYS team over the years, and believe that the serenity of The Yoga School will continue in my heart whilst I continue on my yoga journey to contentment.
