Physical health requires movement diversity and while yoga offers a wide range of shapes, all too often, like most systems, classical yoga falls short of insuring that we stay diverse. Instead of liberating our bodies through yoga, we may end up simply placing ourselves on a different (albeit looser and perhaps longer) leash.

In this innovative and informative weekend, Rocky will hand you the keys to liberate your body and take a pivotal step toward a long-term, successful movement practice that transforms and includes traditional yoga. 10AM to 1PM

Play! – This is a vinyasa session that will include a mix of familiar yoga transitions and many innovative functional movement drills. We will move in dynamic ways to develop a strong a mobile foundation. Focused core work will bridge the gab between standing poses and arm balances. Expect to work hard, laugh, play, and acquire greater ease in poses like handstand, flying pigeon, and other playful arm balances.

2:30PM to 5:30PM

Strengthen! – The session will be focused on creative strength in our muscles and connective tissue through isometrics. We will focus on the major joints of the body and build to a practice of inversions (pinch mayrasana, headstand, handstand). We will end class with some passive release techniques and restorative postures.

10AM to 1PM

Jump! – In this session we will learn the art of plyometrics, or jumping. We will repurpose sun salutations to include more bouncing and rebounding. This is great work to increase heart rate, improve connective tissue elasticity, and increase metabolism. This will be a joyful and transformative session for your body and mind. Expect to move in new ways and discover greater freedom through your whole fascial network. Expect myofascial release, fascial conditioning, backbends, twists, and some creative arm balance transitions.

2:30PM to 5:30PM

Stretch! – This session will teach you how to get stronger and more flexible at the same time! We will learn about eccentric loading, or how to engage muscle tissue while we stretch it. We will use this to open and strengthen the front and back lines of our body. Expect lots of mobility drills, blanket sliding, and hip and heart opening. This will move into hanumanasana variations and backbends like urdhva dhanurasana, eka pada rajakapotasna, and natarajasana.
